WelcomeQuantum Energy and Sustainable Solar Technologies (QESST) STEM PanelThursday, December 10, 2020 at 3:00 PM until 4:00 PMUS Mountain Standard Time UTC -07:00 The Quantum Energy and Sustainable Solar Technologies (QESST) lab is an Engineering Research Center at ASU, that focuses on advancing photovoltaic science, technology, and education in order to address one of society’s greatest challenges: sustainably transforming electricity generation to meet the growing demand for energy. Join us as we hear from students Nicole and Pablo about their experiences in STEM and with QESST.Nicole Swatton Nicole is a junior studying electrical engineering at Arizona State University. She was a NASA intern in the solar department. She also works as an intern for Pablo’s company! Nicole one day hopes to get her Ph.D. and hopefully become an astronaut. In high school, Nicole did FIRST robotics which led her to fall in love with engineering. She always loved animals and the earth and knew she could make a difference through solar energy. Nicole originally didn’t believe in herself being an engineer due to many stereotypes surrounding women in male-dominated fields, but has since found a passion for engineering! Pablo Guimera Coll School: Arizona State University- Currently in my last semester of Ph.D. (5th year) I was born and raised in the sunny Canary Islands, Spain. I received my B.Sc. in Material Physics from Complutense University in Madrid before moving to my second home in Manhattan, Kansas, to get my M.Sc. in Physics at Kansas State University. During those years my research was focused on the synthesis of nanoparticles. In 2015, I started my Doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering at Arizona State University working on solar energy (a dream of mine since I was a kid) and I will be officially graduating on Dec. 14th. Thanks to the successful results in the lab during my Ph.D., my advisor and I started Crystal Sonic. A company that aims to develop cheaper and better microchips that are used in every electronic device we use in our lives. Outside science, I love to play football (the real one), cooking and spending time with my friends. Please complete the registration form to participate in the event.
